Smoking Ban in OhioOn December 7th a smoking ban was installed in the state of Ohio. This ban is effective for public places. This makes it impossible to enjoy a cigarette with a drink, or a cigarette after a meal in a restaurant. Smokers have responded by saying that they feel alienated and belittled and bars and restaurants are responding by saying that they will surely lose out on business with the ban in effect. Most smokers feel that the choice to smoke or not should be entirely up to them. It seems that the smoking ban is a little confusing to some as it is not easy to understand why the most taxed population segment (smokers) are now unable to go to their favorite places and have a cigarette. It appears to many that the government is trying to make as much money as possible by claiming high taxes on cigarettes yet at the same time smokers are banned. Smokers are a group of the population that has dealt with social limitations because of the smoking habit and the tax dollars raised by smokers have recently helped to build stadium. and help to pay for art and music entertainment for the public. It seems that the government is sending out mixed signals by not allowing smokers to enjoy a cigarette in places that they've helped to finance. Smokers in general want to decide for themselves where and when they want to enjoy a cigarette and are often more than willing to stay out of the way of non-smokers. |
